HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Happy 2019! We can't believe we're entering the second semester of the school year! It promises to be busy and exciting year at the Child Development Center!
The CDC received an early Christmas present in mid- December when we learned that we received a very high three-star rating on our program assessment. Thank you for your support throughout the assessment process! We could not have done it without you. While the "lucky" teachers (Jessica and Beverly from our 3's classroom and Kat and Michelle from our young toddlers classroom) were assessed and interviewed, the entire staff worked tirelessly in the weeks prior to our assessment. Furniture was bought and assembled, classrooms were rearranged, cleaned and organized. Teachers attended assessment trainings and worked many extra hours to ensure that every corner of their classroom was assessment ready. I am absolutely confident that any and all of our classrooms could have been chosen and that the result would have been the same: a strong score and a shiny 3 star rating! Additionally, I'd like to thank our CDC Parent Board and especially our board chair, Ashley Glander and FUMC Pastor, Troy Forrester. Ashley and Troy worked with me last summer to create a new operating budget that allowed us to purchase needed furnishings and materials for the school. They listened, advised, crunched numbers and then supported our proposed budget to the FUMC finance committee. Without those additional funds, we would not have been able to make the necessary changes and I'm grateful.
Speaking of changes... the playground is our next big focus area! As you know, the CDC has been raising funds for a few years through a variety of fundraising efforts to make improvements on our playground. To date, we've raised about $28,000 dollars and know that we need to double that (at least!) to build the playground of our dreams. To that end, we will launch a new "Tuition Round-up" fundraiser on January 1st, 2019. When you receive your monthly tuition statement, you'll be asked to "round up" your tuition. The extra "round-up" will go directly into our playground fund. Additionally, you'll receive tax credit for each month that you round up and donate. Any round-up/donation is appreciated. On January 16th, the playground committee will meet with our new playground consultant to see her first draft rendering of our new playground. We will keep you all posted about these exciting developments and thank you, in advance, for your support! We are also planning a fundraising dinner/auction/student art show to be held in the Spring. More information about that fun event to follow....

CONGRATULATIONS, MS. BRITTNEY!!
Brittney Gulmire, our head teacher in the Older Toddlers classroom, has accepted the position of Director of Children’s Ministry at FUMC! Brittney’s love of children and her desire to share the message of Christ’s love with everyone she encounters made her the perfect candidate for this position. Don’t worry! She will remain on staff at the CDC, but will join the FUMC staff as well, helping to build an even stronger relationship between FUMC and the CDC. If you have questions about FUMC’s children’s ministry program, are interested in your children joining or just want to chat with Brittney about her vision, you may contact her at email@example.com
The CDC is closed on Monday, January 21st in observance of MLK, Jr. Day.
Registration for Parents Night Out on Friday, 2/1/19 is due by Friday, 1/25/19. Please e-mail Leigh Feld at firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
