Shawna Harp

Co–Head Teacher

Knoxville-native Miss Shawna joined FCP in 2016. She has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development and feels very fortunate to be able to do what she loves. Her favorite thing about her classroom is the bank of windows that face the playground. A happy preschool day involves watching her students engaged in the activities of the day. When Shawna was preschool age she stayed with her mamaw and remembers eating grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch. Shawna lives with husband Mickey, sons Tanner and Cameron, and papaw puppy Tucker. A dedicated runner, Shawna enjoys running in many different areas of Knoxville. Her “favorites” include the Real Housewives shows, any songs by Bon Jovi, a yummy veggie plate, and nonfat chai or vanilla latte.

Madeline St. Clair

Co–Head Teacher

Ms. Madeline joined FCP in 2019 and has already shared her talents in Dogwood and Red Maple. The Kingsport native loves how the Mulberry room makes her feel when she walks in. A good day is “when class just flows and you and your co-teacher work so well together!” Her teaching goal is building a strong foundation for learning through exploration and creativity. Madeline’s own preschool memory is of playing Powder Puff Girls with her best friends. Madeline graduated in 2016 with a BS in Education. What does she want to be when she grows up? “This is a great question because I change my mind every week, but hopefully an occupational therapist or a physical therapist. Still trying to figure it all out during this pandemic!" Madeline loves steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet tea, and her mom’s homemade red velvet cake. Madeline considers herself best at being loud.

Ben Feld

Mr. Ben joined FCP this year and is the daily afternoon teacher in Mulberry. He has a bachelor's degree in business and sports marketing from Birmingham-Southern. Ben is a new dad to a beautiful baby girl, and he lives with his wife, Sabrina, and extended family. Ben is an avid golfer and sports fanatic. He loves rooting for "his teams," the Titans and the Cubs. Ben's favorite meal is chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and a Nutri-Grain bar on the side. When he was three, Ben preferred wearing the same outfit in preschool every day: a tutu and a cowboy hat.

JANUARY 2021

January 18
Last week our theme was Snow and Snowmen. We read The Snowy Day and made a portrait of the character Peter. Other art projects included a beautiful framed snow scene, a mosaic snowman, and a tissue-paper snowflake. For letter learning, we pricked the letters A and  F in play dough, and used play dough to build the letters.

Last week we learned the correct way to write the letter “M.”  We also had to figure out how to make the letter using marshmallows! Literacy learning continued with our morning message board and practicing making the letter "S" with spaghetti (we ate it). For art, it was fun to work together and draw favorite holiday memories. We also drew a self-portrait and made a New Year’s hat and a party blower for it. When we were done we talked about our resolutions!
